Know How To Prevent Pregnancy Line or Linea Nigra

During your pregnancy, you’re going to experience unusual changes in your body. Your breasts and belly, for instance, are going to enlarge. You will have an amazing glow on your face. Above all, you will have a dark line going down your navel. That line is the pregnancy line, which is also known as Linea nigra. It lingers on even after you’ve delivered your baby. In certain cases, this line can even reach up to the breasts.

It’s not that harmful! And because of its light colour, it goes unnoticed.

Go on reading to find out the reasons behind this pregnancy line or Linea Nigra and the ways to deal with it:

  • What are the reasons behind Linea Nigra? Due to fluctuating pregnancy hormones, your body produces melanin in large amounts. A melanin is a compound, which is responsible for giving skin pigments. In fact, this is an extra pigment which appears as a dark line on the stomach. You might be a woman of dark or fair skin colour, this pregnancy line is certainly going to affect you. Well! If you’re faired skinned, this line is going to be more pronounced.
  • When does Linea Nigra or Pregnancy Line appear? This mostly appears in the second trimester and remains throughout the pregnancy, as per the OB-GYN Michelle Tollefson, M.D., an assistant professor in the department of health professions at Metropolitan State College of Denver. A centimetre long line.
  • When does this line fade away? Experts will never advise you to get it treated – either during your pregnancy or while you’re breastfeeding. So, once you’ve delivered your baby, this line will go away naturally.
  • How can you prevent yourself from getting this line? As such, there is no specific treatment for pregnancy line or Linea Nigra, but the way to prevent the appearance of the linea nigra is to keep the sun away. And if, by chance, you’re going out in the sun, try to cover up your body as much as possible.  Also ensure that you eat folate full pregnancy diet.
