Top Ways To Teach Your Baby About Colors

12-month-old babies are like little sponges—absorbing all the information around them. This is the time when parents can teach them to follow basic instructions and things such as what is what and how to do something. This is a good time to introduce babies to colours and train them to recognise and differentiate between them. Here are some ways to do it:

Start With a Rainbow Food Plate

Turn your little one’s plate into a double-duty tutorial in recognising colours and learning about nutrition. Serve food options with different colours and sizes such as Red bell pepper, Brown bread, Yellow cheese and White milk. Let him recognise the colours and make this a daily routine.

Let Them Paint With Fingers

Sensory activities where your little one is actively touching and tasting are best for teaching new ideas. They learn best through practical experience and at the same time, it is a fun activity for them. Have your little one rub their fingers in colours and smear them on a piece of paper while you ask them about the colours they are using.

Introduce Colour Matching Games

Make different colours cards out of cardboard or glaze paper and put them on the floor. Ask your little one to pick up matching colours and arrange them together. These games can build up fine motor skills in kids and at the same time develop cognition.

Go With The Flow

Kids learn better in their natural environment and through daily activities. It includes :

  • Ask them the colours of the clothes they are wearing today and let them recognise yours too.
  • Bed time is a great way to make your child reminisce about colours. Get your kid to pick up the same colour pillows and identify the colour of the bedsheet.
  • Playing outdoors in a children’s park is a great way to teach him about colours. Green grass, red flower, blue sky and other combinations can be of great help.

Learning With Music Videos

Nothing is better than music and anime videos when it comes to learning. Babies love listening to music and the visuals will give them a higher chance to recognise the colours. There are tons of videos available on the internet with colourful graphics and appealing tunes.

The activities mentioned above can help your little one learn about colours in a fun way. Get innovative and start early to make him familiar with all the colours.
